Tour Highlights

Journey to the Coorong

Depart your Adelaide or Adelaide Hills accommodation with an expert local guide from The Tailor Touring. Your journey south winds through the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula to the historic river port of Goolwa, continuing across to Hindmarsh Island. At the Mundoo Boat Ramp, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your Ngarrindjeri hosts for a deeply personal and privileged cultural experience. Hear firsthand the living traditions, Dreaming stories, and the enduring sacred connection of the Ngarrindjeri people to their lands, waters, and sky.

The Murray Mouth and Private Barge Crossing

Board a private barge to cross the storied waters where Australia’s most significant river system meets the wild Southern Ocean. This dramatic river-ocean confluence, framed by sweeping Ramsar-listed wetlands and Long-nosed Fur Seals basking along the shores near the Murray Mouth, is a landscape of rare ecological significance. Landing at Godfreys Landing within Coorong National Park, the scale and silence of this ancient place makes an immediate impression.

Pipi Harvest on the Ocean Shore

With your Ngarrindjeri hosts, journey across sweeping coastal dunes to the ocean’s edge to take part in the harvesting of Pipis (Goolwa cockles), a cherished delicacy and cultural staple for millennia. Digging for Pipis is a joyful, hands-on experience that connects guests to the land, the sea, and the long-standing sustainable practices of both Indigenous communities and today’s fisheries. Surrounded by ancient shell middens, you’ll learn how this small mollusc has become a cornerstone of both Ngarrindjeri foodways and Australia’s gourmet seafood industry.

Ngarrindjeri Arts, Craft & Waterways

Round out the day with time alongside Ngarrindjeri artisans, whose intricately hand-woven baskets carry deep cultural meaning and generations of skill. Alternatively, take a peaceful canoe tour through the region’s winding waterways – an opportunity to observe native flora and fauna while deepening your understanding of the spiritual and ecological significance of the Coorong landscape.
